“I hear shuffling and the squeak of a shoe. A heavy thud. And then a wail that curdles my blood and makes my hair stand on end. I throw the blankets back and stand on the stone floor with bare feet.”
What I expected:
I saw the film a while back, so I had an idea about the structure of the book. I couldn’t remember all the details, but based on what I could remember I was sure it would be a good read.
Also: check out the new dust jacket! I love it!
What it was:
It was better as a book than a film, though I find that is often the case for me.
Tris chooses a different faction than she was born into (sorry that was a spoiler but I think it may have been an obvious one). She has to getting used to different ways of doing things. She also has to ensure that she stays on top of the game amongst the new initiates, in order to keep her place in her new faction.
There is unrest amongst some of the factions in general and this spills over into each initiates life as they try to learn their place in the world.
Some are more ambitious than others and they make use of their position and faction loyalties to move themselves nearer to their own achievements.
The book is so much more than I have described, but if you haven’t seen the film, to say more would spoil it for you.
I received an e-ARC of this novel through NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. NetGalley does not allow for paid reviews.
